Turning sustainability into a strategic advantage for Foodbank
About the project
Foodbank faced a challenge in facilitating efficient and sustainable food deliveries between its central warehouse in Yarraville and the Community Food Centre in Morwell. The need for an optimised transport solution was clear, requiring a balance of reliable logistics and environmental responsibility.
Mondo partnered with Foodbank to address this need by estimating vehicle energy consumption rates and forecasting daily energy and charging requirements. The solution included the installation of an 80kW DC fast charger at Morwell for rapid turnarounds and a 22kW AC charger at Yarraville for overnight charging. This design not only supported Foodbank's current operations but also allowed flexibility for future fleet expansion.
Through this partnership, Mondo provided a tailored solution that met Foodbank's immediate needs while positioning them for future growth in their mission to combat food insecurity.

Frequently Asked Questions
Foodbank transitioned to electric vehicles as part of its commitment to sustainability and decarbonisation. By moving to an electric fleet, Foodbank not only reduces its carbon footprint but also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on protecting the planet. This shift supports Foodbank’s ongoing efforts to build efficient, environmentally responsible partnerships throughout the food and grocery supply chain.
We ensured the design of the charging infrastructure including the size and speed of chargers was specifically tailored to meet Foodbanks unique needs and requirements in moving food parcels in and around Morwell and working back across to Foodbanks Yarraville site. In preparation, we considered a range of factors including power supply, space constraints and the environmental factors given the installation is outdoor and this required weatherproofing and protection from extreme conditions.
