With 48 households buying energy systems from their local community solar program, it’s safe to say that the region has embraced renewable energy and smart technology.
Spearheaded by community group Southern Otways Sustainable (SOS), the region now has an addition 109kWh of battery storage, and 230 kW of solar installed.
Key program figures:
- 109 kWh combined battery orders
- Average battery = size 9kWh
- 250 kW combined solar orders
- Average solar system size = 5kW
- 48 household participating in the program
Our solar installation partner, City to Surf Solar, is currently working to install these systems – meaning Southern Otways Sustainable is one step closer to their 100% renewable energy goal.
“We’re over the moon with the response from the community,” said Matt Armstrong, President of Southern Otways Sustainable. “I feel confident that locals understand the benefits of these programs – both financially and sustainably, and I’m sure if “round two” comes along other locals will jump at the opportunity to participate.”
Mondo’s role as trusted adviser, project coordinator, and supplier of smart energy technology has hit the right note in the Barwon region, with another successful project steaming ahead in Ocean Grove.
Mondo supports local sustainability project with $10,000 grant
As a further show of support for the ambitious community, Mondo offered a $10,000 grant towards another sustainability project in the region. The funding went towards a solar system for the Community Composter in Apollo Bay – so now the compost is even more environmentally friendly! City to Surf Solar boosted the impact of the system by generously donating a 7kWh battery.
Looking to the future
Whilst applications for the program have now officially closed, Mondo looks forward to its continued partnership with Southern Otways Sustainable and supporting their vision of a renewable energy future in the region. Keep your eyes peeled for future programs, and keep your eye on the Mondo Portal as those community energy achievements keep rising!
