SCADA install for AusNet Services

The Mondo Gas SCADA team has been servicing AusNet Services assets for over 10 years with works including new installations, general maintenance and fault response.

Mondo has designed, built, and installed a remote telemetry unit (RTU) to the BOC site in Altona North. The installation of an RTU means the visibility of gas pressures and safety alarms are greatly increased, as well as offering round-the-clock data collection and live pressure feedback along with other critical information.

Mondo’s Gas SCADA team has delivered the entire project from start to finish including the installation of instrument cabling and testing components. The included solar system allows the RTU to be fully self-sufficient with the aid of a smart solar controller/regulator connected to a 120Ah lithium-ion battery.

Mondo has also integrated the use of a new Intercel eSAM-4QX 4G modem to move away from the 3G network that is being made obsolete.

This RTU is at one of five sites that Mondo has installed this year, at various locations.

What is SCADA?

SCADA is an acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. SCADA systems are commonly used to monitor and control plant or equipment in industries such as utilities, waste, oil and gas and transportation.

A SCADA system is typically comprised of a combination of monitoring equipment, sensors and other devices which provide information to a monitoring interface situated in a different location.
