Water meter services trusted by industry
Mondo’s Water and Gas field services team deliver a range of metering services for Yarra Valley Water, City West Water, Coliban Water and Central Highlands Water.
With a team of over 100 field service representatives, plumbers and scheduling officers who have over 500 years experience in the industry, our services are trusted by Victoria’s most reputable companies.
A “Dry Tapping” represents a new connection of water to a new development site.
A dry tapping is generally 20mm or 25mm in diameter. A dry tapping includes a connection and service pipe which terminates within each parcel of land (lot) within the estate. A dry tap job installs the water meter assembly including the water meter, and can often include a recycled service meter.
A “Wet Tapping” represents a new connection which is made into the reticulated water supply main under pressure. A wet tapping may be any size from 20mm to 200mm+.
A Main to Meter Connection includes tapping the water main, installation of the service pipe from the main to the property boundary and installation of the water meter and data logger, where applicable. Most importantly, a complete Main to Meter Connection ensures the job is completed safely, is compliant and ensures that all stakeholders are actively engaged through the process.
This is achieved by a team of highly skilled Project Managers who are responsible for assessing the site and scheduling all required field services and materials.
POA are works which are typically larger jobs or commercial. They are site-specific quotes that factor in all services, permits and requirements to complete the water connection. Works are undertaken on request of the customer.

- Removal of excess spoil and work-related rubbish
- Test & backfill on completion
This is similar to a Wet Tapping, however, a tee insertion applies to a connection greater than 50mm diameter and where a tapping cannot be achieved under pressure, or due to site conditions, may require a divide valve or a hydrant installation.
Due to the fact that the Water Main is required to be shut off, we will ensure all impacted customers are notified 7 days prior to the work taking place.
We will cut a section of the main out and insert the Tee piece, or in some cases, plug and seal the service.
A Check Meter is a water meter that is connected after a main water meter which is used to register water that is used by individual multi-dwelling /occupancy developments on a parcel of land.
We install 30,000 of these annually, with the majority being installed in high rise buildings in the CBD.
We are responsible for the validation of the Magflow meters to ensure the meters are set correctly, the data being recorded is correct and the customers are receiving accurate bills.
We do this by downloading the required data and making any relevant changes to the settings (if required). Whilst on-site, we also make sure the assembly is compliant.
School Water Efficiency Program
The Schools Water Efficiency Program (SWEP) is a Victorian Government initiative funded by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). Over the past eight years, the Water and Gas field services team have successfully installed in excess of 3600 data loggers with 1875 currently active and have attended to nearly 1300 sites across Victoria.
The program provides staff and students with an understanding of their water consumption and efficiencies through a tailored curriculum program via a fun educational online platform. Digitising existing mechanical water meters, Mondo provides the installation and data flow via cellular network design Narrowband Internet of things (NB-IoT). NB-IoT is a low power wide area (LPWA) technology developed to enable a wide range of new IoT devices and services. This is supported by all major mobile equipment and chipset (internal data flow component) and can co-exist with 3G, 4G and 5G mobile networks.
So far more than 8.9 billion litres of water has been saved that would have otherwise cost an additional $28m in water-related charges by early leak detection.

Digital Water Metering
Over the last 18 months the Water and Gas field services team have been working on a high profile digital metering trial for City West Water (CWW) within Richmond and Docklands in order to better understand the value of the technology for their customers and business. The aim of this trial is to determine whether digital meters can significantly reduce water loss in the network as a result of more timely alerts to both the water retailer and the customer.
The Metropolitan Melbourne water utilities, City West Water, South East Water and Yarra Valley Water, have been working together to explore wide scale digital water meters opportunities under the umbrella of a “Digital Metering Joint Program”. Whilst the utilities are taking a Melbourne-wide approach to the collaboration, each utility is also moving along their own digital transformation. The first stage of City West Water’s digital metering journey involved an End-to-End (E2E) Proof of Concept (POC) trial to assess the feasibility, scalability and customer engagement channels for digital metering roll out.
